Belitung is an Indonesian island east of Sumatra. Its main island's beaches, including Tanjung Tinggi and Tanjung Kelayang, are known for their rounded granite boulders, fine sand and calm waters. The island's largest town, Tanjung Pandan, features Dutch colonial architecture and a colorful harbor. Pulau Lengkuas, one of many small offshore islands, has a 19th-century lighthouse and snorkeling among its coral reefs.

Bengkulu province lies on the southwest coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Stretching along the Indian Ocean coastline are Tapak Paderi beach and the main beach of Pantai Panjang, lined with restaurants, hotels and shops. The provincial capital, also called Bengkulu, features the 18th-century Fort Marlborough. Nearby, the Thomas Parr Monument commemorates a British governor assassinated during colonial rule.

Padang, the capital of Indonesia's West Sumatra province, lies on Sumatra's west coast. Its old quarter features Dutch colonial buildings and fishing boats around the Batang Arau port and river. The Museum Adityawarman displays regional artifacts in a traditional curved-roof structure with parklike grounds. The beach Pantai Air Manis is a well-known site to watch the sunset.
