Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath with Roman Baths
Over 900 years of royal history are waiting for you in Windsor Castle, which is perched high above the River Thames just outside of London. From William the Conqueror all the way through to Queen Elizabeth, successive monarchs have lived here and left their mark on what is now the largest continuously occupied castle in the world. We shall be amongst the first people to enter Windsor Castle, so you can see for yourself the splendour of St. George’s Chapel and the sumptuous state apartments. The most famous prehistoric monument in the world, and now a world heritage site, Stonehenge stands alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years and it has been home to pagan religion and spiritual worship, not to be mention public debate ever since. What was this vast collection of stones intended for? Was it observatory of the moon, a temple to the sun, or an elaborate cemetery? Who were the people who carried and carved these 40-ton rocks? Come and unlock the secrets for yourself and marvel at this remarkable and mysterious feat of ancient engineering and design. Our final stop is Bath, another world heritage site. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces, and architecture. Your ticket includes entrance to the Roman Baths that were built nearly 2,000 years ago. Built on Britain's only natural hot water spring lies the magnificent Roman public bath complex and Roman temple. On Sunday St Georges Chapel is closed, you will be given extra time to explore the castle grounds.
Full Day Tour of the Cotswolds with Lunch
Travel back in time to a simpler life full of beautiful countryside landscapes and quaint little cottages. The Cotswolds are a magical set of villages and the perfect backdrop for lunch and a spot of tea. Our full day tour begins in Burford, a beautiful medieval town regarded by many as 'the gateway to the Cotswolds'. You'll have time to stroll down the magnificent high street, with buildings featuring every variety of Cotswold stone. There will be time to visit the tea houses and shops before we head south to Bibury, described as the ‘prettiest village in the Cotswolds’, by William Morris. Admire the cottages built in the late 1300s, which are also featured on the inside of all United Kingdom passports. You may also recognize this location from the popular movie “Bridget Jones Diary.” Lunch beckons and what better way to satisfy your hunger than with a fabulous two course lunch in the Swan Hotel, situated in the centre of Bibury overlooking the River Coln. The 17th century former coaching Inn serves a fabulous range of traditional cooking, ales and fine wines. Relax and rewind, in comfy armchairs in quirky styled warm rooms. Perhaps if you’re lucky you will indeed see a mother swan with her signets, as they drift past on the river. In the afternoon we take a leisurely drive passing through charming villages before visiting Bourton-on-the-water and Stow-on-the Wold, two of the most picturesque parts of the northern Cotswolds. Your guide will take you on a short walk in each village explaining their history, and there's time to pop in to some of the many boutiques and tearooms, before re-joining the coach and returning to London.
