Day 1: Auckland to Hokianga
On arrival at Auckland airport pick up your car and head north over the Auckland Harbour Bridge on your journey to Northland and your first stop on this twin coast holiday. As you head north take time to stop in Warkworth for refreshments before visiting the Kauri Museum at Matakohe. Passing through Dargaville and heading along the Kairo Coast you’ll reach Hokianga.
Day 2: Hokianga
Today embark on a cultural discovery with nature. A visitor experience like no other, Manea Footprints of Kupe enlightens the sacred tribal histories of the region bringing you along for a voyager with Kupe the discoverer. Next you get to meet some of the giants of the forest; Tane Matua Ngahere and Tane Mahuta. Your guide will share thought provoking information, humerous banter, stories and legends before respectfully greeting the oldest and largest known kauri trees in the world with spine tingling chants and songs.
Day 3: Hokianga to Paihia
Venturing to the east coast of Northland you travel over to Paihia. We suggest taking a slight detour and going into Kerikeri. There are a number of signs showing the way to artists studio, which give this district its creative personality. In Kerikeri youll find galleries, cafes, vineyards and fascinating historic sites such as the Stone Store and the Mission House. Spend the evening in Paihia.
Day 4: Paihia
The Bay of Islands offers some of the best coastal and island scenery in New Zealand so this helicopter scenic flight offers exceptional views of these beautiful islands leading to the infamous “Hole in the Rock”. Departing from the beachfront helipad in Paihia the flight heads across Russell with views over to Opua and surrounds before tracking along the stunning peninsula coastline to Cape Brett and its lighthouse where you will experience an exciting turn to fly around the Hole in the Rock. The return portion of the flight flies directly over the main islands with birds eye views of their white sandy beaches, inviting turquoise waters and some of the luxurious private residences. Coming into land you will fly past the Paihia township. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure.
Day 5: Paihia to Tutukaka
Time to head south for a two night stay in Tutukaka. It is the gateway to the ‘best subtropical diving in the world’. Natural beauty abounds on the Tutukaka Coast. Rocky shores and pristine white sand beaches, stunning coastal bush walks, and the incredible Poor Knights Marine Reserve.
Day 6: Tutukaka
its time to get out on the water and the best way is a very special day trip. Perfect Day offers the ultimate non-diving Poor Knights experience, offering sight-seeing, kayaking, cave explortations, snorkelling, swimming, sea mammal spotting, snippets of fascinating history, island facts and great food.
Day 7: Depart Tutukaka
At your leisure this morning, enjoy breakfast and check out before returning to Auckland to drop off your car.
